This
poll is designed to identify teams that have played well – yet does not
take into consideration the history of their program or the pre-season
rankings of ESPN or the AP polls. Every team in Division I-A started
equal, and points are awarded based on the years’ results. Approximately
60% of the points awarded are for being victorious (including a strength
of schedule component after the first week’s games) and 40% of the
points are awarded for margin of victory. Thus, you won’t see a poll
that closely resembles the AP top 25 or the ESPN top 25. The teams listed
here are the teams that are beating quality opposition and are rewarded
for the margin of victory. Notice
that by compiling a poll with no bias how many “non-BCS” schools are
in the Top 25 on a weekly basis?
